Dr. Callahan continued to refine his method and eventually developed what is now known as Thought Field Therapy. He published his first book on TFT in 1985, and since then, it has been used to treat a wide range of conditions, including anxiety, phobias, trauma, depression, addiction, and physical pain.

TFT is based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, which holds that the body has a system of energy pathways called meridians. TFT Tapping points

Here is a list of the specific tapping points in TFT, along with their location on the body:

  • Eyebrow: At the beginning of the eyebrow, above and to the side of the nose
  • Side of the eye: On the bone bordering the outer corner of the eye
  • Under the eye: On the bone under the eye, about an inch below your pupil
  • Under the nose: On the small area between the bottom of the nose and the upper lip
  • Chin point: On the crease between the lower lip and the chin
  • Collarbone: On the junction where the sternum, collarbone, and first rib meet
  • Under the arm: About 4 inches below the armpit, on the side of the body
  • Top of the head: At the center of the crown, where the skull meets the forehead

In addition, there are finger points and a wrist point that are used in TFT:

  • Karate chop point: On the side of the hand, in the fleshy area between the base of the pinky finger and the wrist.
  • Gamut point: On the back of the hand, between the knuckles of the ring finger and little finger
  • Index finger point: On the side of the index finger closest to the thumb, about 1 inch below the base of the nail
  • Middle finger point: On the side of the middle finger closest to the thumb, about 1 inch below the base of the nai
  • Little finger point: On the side of the little finger closest to the thumb, about 1 inch below the base of the nail

TFT session

A TFT session typically begins with the therapist asking the client about their issue, such as anxiety, phobia, or trauma. The therapist will then use a diagnostic process to identify the specific thought field or combination of negative emotions that are causing the problem.

Once the thought field has been identified, the therapist will ask the client to rate the intensity of their negative emotion on a scale of 0-10, where 0 represents no emotion and 10 represents the most intense emotion.

The therapist will then prescribe a specific tapping sequence based on the client's thought field and negative emotion intensity. The tapping sequence involves tapping on specific acupressure points on the body in a particular order, while the client focuses on their negative emotion.

The therapist may ask the client to repeat a phrase or affirmation during the tapping sequence to reinforce positive feelings and beliefs.

After completing the tapping sequence, the therapist will ask the client to rate the intensity of their negative emotion again. If the intensity has decreased, the therapist will repeat the tapping sequence until the intensity reaches 0 or number that feels comfortable for the client.

The length of a TFT session can vary depending on the severity of the issue and the client's response to the treatment. Some people may experience immediate relief after one session, while others may require multiple sessions to achieve lasting results.

Throughout the session, the therapist will guide the client and monitor their progress to ensure that they are comfortable and getting the most out of the treatment.

How many sessions are needed?
