TFT means Thought Field Therapy and EFT means Emotional Freedom Technique.

Both TFT and EFT are forms of “psychological acupressure” – an emotional clearing techniques that may help release any ‘stuck’ emotions / blocks which are preventing a person from moving forward in their lives.

Both Thought Field Therapy and Emotional Freedom Technique involve tapping on specific points on the body while focusing attention on a specific emotion or problem. The purpose of both methods is to overcome negative thoughts and traumatic memories and clear the energy blocks within the body.

How were these techniques developed?

Thought Field Therapy is teh original technique and it was developed by Roger Callahan after he discovered innovative applications of kinesiology and meridian therapies.

Emotional Freedom Technique was developed by Gary Craig after studying extensively under Roger Callahan. Gary brought his training in NLP to the table, introducing “healing scripts” that could be incorporated while tapping on the points.

Why do TFT & EFT work?

These techniques are based on the belief that the cause of negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. A thought or memory could trigger this disruption, leading to physical or psychological pain.

These techniques balance the disrupted energy and may relieve the client of all sorts of long standing issues, removing blocks in the process. Once the energy disruption is released, the memories often lose their emotional intensity and thus reduce negative feelings. Some psychologists consider TFT & EFT to be an important breakthrough, often working where nothing else will.

Our thoughts constantly create patterns of energy, which in turn release hormones, chemicals and neurotransmitters. TFT and EFT could interrupt this chain of events, preventing the previously expected emotional reaction.

What can be treated with TFT & EFT?

TFT & EFT might be successfully applied to an enormous range of issues from small difficulties through to PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Many people find this process works just as well for their deep-rooted issues as it does for minor irritations, and once all aspects of the problem have been addressed, the results could be permanent.

Problems that have caused intense distress in the past, sometimes for many years, might welldisappear. Potential future events which have been causing anxiety might become easier to face.  TFT & EFT could therefore be applied to many emotional issues, whether from the past, in the present or in the future.

How do tapping techniques work?

During the session, we will guide you through a visualization of the traumatic event so that you can process the emotions surrounding it. We will use tapping of meridian points to reduce or completely remove the emotional charge of the experience.

TFT & EFT works by desensitizing your emotional response to the traumatic event. The tapping part of the technique resets your body’s stress response by tapping the meridian points on your body. Each meridian point has an emotional component attached to it — tapping the point releases this emotion. When this happens, the emotional charge of the traumatic event is reduced. In turn, you feel less anxious and stressed about the event.

What are the benefits of TFT & EFT?

Tapping has an enormous positive effect on the Autonomic Nervous system (ANS), an internal system that controls heartbeat, breathing, body temperature, blood pressure, blood chemistry, metabolism, immune functions and other ‘involuntary’ functions. Tapping can directly influence the heart and balance the ANS, thereby producing significant physical and emotional well-being.

In-fact, tapping causes positive changes in the body more than most other approaches, and also no treatment approach is better at quickly re-balancing and normalizing the ANS. Science backs this up.

Some people recommend tapping daily as an internal workout to help tune-up all your organs, help your blood-pressure, your blood-chemistry, general aches and pains and more!

How do these techniques differ?

Fundamentally, Emotional Freedom Techniques is a “one size fits all” approach to managing traumatic memories, triggers, and negative emotions. EFT uses the same points and the same sequence every time, sometimes with additional healing scripts that are repeated by the client.

Thought Field Therapy is a more customized approach that gives us the ability to really focus in on specific emotions and triggers when you need to. TFT tailors the tapping points and their sequence depending on the specific emotions the client is experiencing in the moment.
